Novo Nordisk members don’t let Type 1 diabetes stop them from cycling

Mr Holmes, 49, said: “When I was initially diagnosed, I asked ‘what can I do to get rid of it?’ but I was told I couldn’t, I just had to manage it. Founded by diabetes advocate Phil Southerland, Team Novo Nordisk is the first professional team in any sport to be made up exclusively of athletes with type 1 diabetes. This includes people who due to lack of time, would not otherwise have the resources to engage in physical activity,” said Martin Rasmussen from the University of Southern Denmark. Five years after they were initially recruited, participants were contacted for follow-up and their cycling habits were re-assessed. Bestmed-ASG veteran Gerhard Moolman, whose son and competitive cyclist Marco lives with diabetes, will join team manager Owen Botha and elite female riders Desray Sebregts and Michelle Benson on their quest to educate the public. Winner selection will be conducted by random drawing from all eligible* entries on or about August 10, 2015 (the “Drawing Date”). I consider myself a very adventurous guy in fact my hobbies are extreme sports such as Scuba Diving where I have the first license that of an ‘Open Water Diver’.

It’s a continental team one level below the Pro Tour giants but one with huge ambition, on the road and off. A ride may last from 10 minutes to 40 minutes, meaning each individual rider gets only a short break before having to ride again. His addition helps solidify the team’s long-term commitment

Treatment with high dose of atorvastatin reduces vascular injury in diabetic rats. – PubMed

Design of the Collaborative AtoRvastatin Diabetes Study (CARDS) in patients with type 2 diabetes. Arterial stiffness affects the blood flow of peripheral arteries. Statins inhibit 3-hydroxy-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase, a rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis, and share the common mechanism of lowering circulating levels of lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol. David D. Patients with diabetes and diabetic dyslipidemia had considerable endothelium-dependent and endothelium-independent dysfunction; mean flow-mediated vasodilation (SD) was 3.16% (3.56), and mean response on sublingual nitroglycerin was 6.58% (6.04). A greater reduction in apoB/apoA1 was seen with RSV (-34.9%, -39.2% and -40.5%) than with ATV (-32.4%, -34.7% and -35.8%, P < 0.05 at weeks 12 and 18). Risk reductions from the CARDS clinical trial were used to adjust these CV event probabilities in the atorvastatin 10 mg treatment group. 6.06%, adjusted HR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.08 to 1.75, p = 0.011). The number of CV events was significantly reduced with atorvastatin 80 mg in both NOD risk groups. For patients with type 2 diabetes and one additional risk factor for CV disease, normal LDL-cholesterol and no history of a CV event, primary prevention with atorvastatin appears to be cost saving and improve outcomes over 25 years, although it is costly from a short-term US payer perspective. 1.19 +/- 0.42 pg/ml at baseline; P < 0.05) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 [median (25-75 percentile)

Organ donation request now must for doctors – Times of India

Making the life changing decision to become a registered organ donor can be full of questions. But before the transplant can take place, a number of things happen. FACT:  Better check again. A fan had just swore he was at the classic 1981 NFC title game at Candlestick Park climaxed by “The Catch” — Dwight Clark’s leaping snag in front of Walls that propelled the San Francisco 49ers to their first Super Bowl. Heartbeating donation: If you’re kept on a ventilator (after your death your organs continue to be supplied with oxygenated blood) heartbeating donation is the most successful for transplants. According to the law, the organs and tissues of a person who is brain dead may be used for the benefit of another person if the patient has not objected to organ donation during his/her lifetime. Does it cost to donate organs?

Living donors can provide a kidney or a portion of a liver, lung, or intestine. Liver: This large organ secretes bile and helps metabolize fats, carbs, and proteins. They brought with them Mr. He was quite fragile because he was still on a lot of machines it seemed. But her requests are always followed with a handful of reasons why brain donation is the key to understanding the mind’s intricacies. The award will enable Dr Mannering to visit three international laboratories noted for innovative type 1 diabetes and immune-based research to share his research results and build important international collaborations which will further
