Spreading the good word

The Kidney Research National Dialogue (KRND) seeks to identify important research questions or objectives, which if answered, would improve our understanding of kidney function, and aid in the prevention, treatment, and even reversal of kidney disease. In this issue of Diabetes Dialogue, the spirit of the season is alive and well in our feature stories, which look at a range of issues that touch the lives of Canadians with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. This means choosing foods that are higher in fibre and other important nutrients, and lower in calories, saturated fat, or sodium. Results 120 patients with T1D participated in at least one DDM: 75% female, mean age 50 years (range 21-76), mean diabetes duration 23 years (range 0-64); 39% of all participants had a baseline PAID score ≥ 33, indicating high levels of distress. It is time that we do our due diligence and save trees while still educating Canadians about living with diabetes. PCD showed no change. Diabetes, hand and/or foot ulcers: a cross-sectional hospital-based study in Port Harcourt,… – Abstract

Just recently, a colleague of mine over at our LifeScan business gave me a heads up about a project she’s been working one that they hope will help raise awareness about a disease that is all too often about statistics and too seldom about the hearts and minds of the thousands of people it touches. “Doctors should have their sensitivity increased toward picking up on the potential for more of their diabetes patients and more of their depression patients having susceptibility to the other disorder,” said Dr. The study looked at medical record of almost 2,400 subjects with asthma and a control group of 4,784 people without asthma from 1967 to 1983, matching asthmatics with non-asthmatics for gender and age. The study group comprised 31 male patients with type 1 diabetes and 72 healthy men as controls. Presentations of carpal tunnel syndrome, or past release (n=27, 45%) and trigger finger (n=24, 40%) were common. Obesity and accumulation of abnormally glycosylated byproducts have been proposed as potential pathogenetic mediators of these connective tissue abnormalities. The MasterLab will last from 7am to 5pm and will encompass a diverse background of advocates and industry experts.

Hospitals over the last several years have begun to recognize the relationship between social determinants and chronic disease management. Additionally, those with diabetes have a higher incidence of both dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, making it even harder for them to

Treatment of cellulitis in hospital in the home: a systematic review.OA Dermatology

The word “cellulitis” actually means “inflammation of the cells.” Specifically, cellulitis refers to an infection of the tissue just below the skin surface. The present study defines the prevalence of diabetes and glucose tolerance impairment in a group presenting with cellulitis to a teaching hospital. These include: •being obese (excessively overweight) •having a weakened immune system •having poorly controlled diabetes •having circulation problems •having chickenpox or shingles •having lymphoedema •having long-term untreated athlete’s foot or fungal toenail infection •intravenous drug use •having previous episodes of cellulitis These are briefly discussed below. 2015; 4(2): 1392-1401. Even something as small as a scratch or an insect bite allows bacteria to enter the skin, which may lead to an infection. Cellulitis often occurs on the legs. If it is left untreated, it can spread and become life-threatening.

[37] [52] In severe penicillin allergy in which there is type-I immediate hypersensitivity reaction, a non-beta-lactam antibiotic is indicated. This damage can be caused by prior cellulitis infections, surgical removal of lymph nodes, removal of veins for vein grafts somewhere else in the body, and radiation to the area. Infections are often caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus and Group A Streptococcus. Cellulitis can usually be diagnosed from its characteristic appearance. What did he do? Cellulitis occurs

The Safe Use of Non-Insulin Therapies for Diabetes

CulturaLink, Inc., is a certified minority and woman-owned business that works with health care organizations to improve the quality and safety of care to culturally and linguistically diverse patients. The award category requires that an organisation can demonstrate that patient safety is at the very heart of its culture. In a survey in 2007, almost 5 per cent of the city population was registered as diabetic (16,844) with an anticipated growth of 3,000 new cases per year. Mainly because of the fixed costs of installing the devices coupled with a negligible impact on BMI. After approval, the information provided by you will be posted on the GPED website (www.globalpedendo.org). They do not treat; truly they exacerbate the difficulty as your immune system weakens. This is an online course, all the training will be taken through your browser window.

IDEEL program has been successfully initiated in the month of September 2013 in India. The e-learning courses developed are based on existing programmes for diabetes training used in a classroom setting. The evaluation results indicate that the proposed computer-supported learning approach can generate positive learning and behavior in children while reducing the time needed to complete awareness tasks when compared to traditional methods; thus making learning more engaging and allowing children to learn at their own pace. After completing this module, you will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of depression and
