Diabetes mellitus and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis. – PubMed

Emerging evidence suggests that a strong link that exists between elevated baseline body iron stores and high risk of incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in general populations, but the precise magnitude of the associations remains uncertain. While substantial research exists on physical activity interventions in adults with diabetes, those at greatest risk for foot ulceration were often excluded or not well-represented. An observational cohort study was performed on a consecutive series of 2002 outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, glycaemic control alone may be insufficient to prevent the development or progression of DSPN, especially in type 2 diabetes. At the age of 12-14 weeks, blood glucose levels rose dramatically from 7.5 up to 16.2 mM, indicating the manifestation of an overt diabetes. During follow-up, 295 deaths were recorded. Diabetic mice showed myocardial contractile dysfunction and augmented mRNA expression of atrial and brain natriuretic peptides (ANP, BNP), MEF2A and MEF2C, SGK1 and IGF1R compared to age- and sex-matched controls.
