Preventing Diabetes: Early Versus Late Preventive Interventions. – PubMed

Diabetes self-care is a critical aspect of disease management for adults with diabetes. Studies show that improved glycemia helps delay or prevent serious diabetes complications. Only 3 out of the 11 studies were randomised controlled trials (RCTs) [30–32]; 1 was a controlled trial [80], 3 were before and after studies [35, 36, 38], 2 were analog experiments [39, 40], 1 cohort study [41] and 1 programme evaluation [42]. “In this project, we aim to encourage children and teens with diabetes along with their families to resume healthy eating with the addition of whole foods like fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains,” she says. Health care organization interventions: Among five health care system intervention trials, the two most highly effective interventions in improving HbA1c and frequency of therapy intensification included rapid turnaround HbA1c. This work is published and licensed by Dove Medical Press Limited. Women in the intervention arm also breastfed their infants for longer time(not statistically significant).

Late interventions will be targeted at people who already have significant pathophysiological derangements that can be considered steps leading to the development of T2D. The Lancet review classified implementation intervention content into 12 strategies [audit and feedback, case management, clinician education, clinician reminders, continuous quality improvement (QI), electronic patient registry, facilitated relay, financial incentives, patient education, patient reminders, self-management, and team changes] organised into three broader categories (health system, healthcare provider, and patient).
