We have studied the effects of stevioside on the glucose and insulin metabolism in 2 models of diabetes in rats, STZ-induced diabetic rats and NIDDM diabetic rats induced by feeding with fructose. Morroniside (20 or 100 mg/kg body weight/d, per os (p.o.)) was administered every day for 8 weeks to db/db mice, and its effect was compared with vehicle-treated db/db and m/m mice.
